A cardio workout that isn’t boring…yes, please.  Lately, pounding the pavement hasn’t been my thing.  However, I really do enjoy a heart pumping cardio workout.

If you think slaving away on the treadmill, bike, or elliptical or going for a 3 mile run is the only way to get your cardio in, think again.  You can get a great cardio workout by combining strength with a short run.  It’s different, so you won’t get bored.

For this workout, you will complete a total of four rounds.  You will have 10 minutes to complete each round, so the faster you move, the more rest you get.  In total, this workout will take 40 minutes from start to finish.

Four rounds, starting one round every 10 minutes

  • 30 Chest to Floor Burpees
  • 40 Double Unders or High Knees (2 count)
  • .50 Mile Run

If you are not getting at least 90 seconds of rest, cut your reps or cut the run short.  As the rounds go, you will likely get less rest.

If you want a full cardio version {no strength}, you can try this workout.  It follows the same structure.  You will complete four rounds, starting one round every 10 minutes.  I completed this a few weeks ago in my garage, and it was tough.

  • 1000 Meter Row
  • .50 Mile Run

How did you do?

In my opinion, this workout was tougher than a 4-5 mile run.  My heart rate was up, I was challenged in multiple ways, and the rounds went quickly.
